The priest Juan Andrés Verde, better known as "Gordo Verde" decided to move to the Santa Eugenia settlement located near the Carrasco stream.He has been working there for six years and now promotes the project of building houses with containers for local families.Juan Andrés arrived there with a group of young missionaries from the Stella Maris de Carrasco parish, which has several projects in the neighborhood.The different groups provide school support, a soccer school, a workshop for adults, a pot, an oratory;and the Cireneos group is dedicated to providing housing solutions.A year and a half ago they started delivering six containers and today they have built 60 homes.The people who receive these containers are families who were living in precarious houses, with mud floors and sheet metal walls.These families, in exchange, must work 10 half-days in the installation of the container and the delivery is as a loan.In the settlement they also placed a container that provides medical care, with professionals who work voluntarily and a chapel.The Neighborhood Association of the Santa Eugenia neighborhood also plays an important role in the work, accompanying and guiding the work of the young people.The project led by "Gordo Verde" seeks to continue expanding the Santa Eugenia neighborhood and replicate this initiative in other neighborhoods of Montevideo.This weekend Karen and her family received her container house.She has been in a relationship with Nicolás for four years and they have an almost three-year-old son who is asthmatic.Due to this, this move, among other things, meant a great change in his quality of life for the little one.Saeta TV Channel 10, Lorenzo Carnelli 1234, Montevido, Uruguay.Phone: 24102120 |FAX:24009771
