CAGAYAN — Hundreds of residents near the river in Barangay Masi, Pamplona will soon be less susceptible to the risk of flood and water overflow.

On Sunday, the Department of Public Works and Highways–Cagayan Second District Engineering Office (CSDEO) said that the construction of Masi Flood Control Structure in the town of Pamplona, Cagayan has started.

The project costing P50-million involves the construction of a 250-linear meter concrete revetment wall on steel sheet piles, according to District Engineer Oscar G. Gumiran.

Most of the residents of Barangay Masi depend on small-scale farming and livestock as their source of income aside from fishing.

With this ongoing project and the completion soon of another flood control structure will possibly allay the fears for loss of income and livelihood of farmers.

The project is funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2022 (GAA 2022) through the Flood Management Program of the Department.

This aims to construct and rehabilitate flood mitigating facilities within major and principal river basins throughout the country.
