Ship off into the sunset in this awesome Austin, TX, home. Accompanied by one of the city’s first shipping container spaces, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home is currently on the market for $529,000.

Future occupants won’t feel boxed in thanks to windows in nearly every room and 11-foot ceilings. Artistic touches such as distinctive light fixtures, pinwheel tile designs, and a stained-glass window in the bathroom add character.

A floating, open-tread staircase leads to the second floor, where you’ll find the two main bedrooms and a private roof deck. Custom details abound throughout, including bespoke window treatments and handcrafted pipe shelving for the cabinetry.

The home was designed by Austin’s Patrice Rios, who was featured on HGTV for her own backyard shipping container office space.

“Containers are so classic-looking,” Rios told Austin Monthly in a 2016 interview. “They are like a marble countertop—they go with every style. You can put one in a farmhouse or in an extremely modern home.”

This duplex building (only one unit of which is for sale) uses the shipping container as an additional space. The container sits in the backyard and can be arranged however future occupants desire, though it’s technically classified as a bedroom.

A privacy fence separates the two adjacent units, each of which comes with its own shipping container. Both homes feature the blocky, stacked shipping container design but with a flowing open-plan arrangement.

The home, which was part of a 2017 Austin interiors tour, has been lauded for its mix of reclaimed and industrial features and combination of textures.

“My goal was to give the new homeowners a place to be at peace," Rios told Tribeza. "The large windows bring in a ton of natural light, so the entire home and containers feel light and airy, peaceful and energetic.”

Unit A is described as the more “masculine” of the two units in terms of furnishings, but we think it should appeal to anyone—style isn't gender-specific.
