WHEN this couple moved in together, they needed a home that would fit all of their children.Eventually, they found the perfect house, but they still didn't have enough space for the three children to each have a private room, so they decided to add not one, but two container houses in the backyard for their teenage daughters.Matt told Tiny Home Giant Journey, "It gives our teenage daughters some autonomy and some space, but [they're] still in the backyard."Not only that, but once his daughters Ashley and Maddie move in, Matt and his partner Linda have the option of moving their elderly parents into the houses. The shipping container homes cost Matt and Linda more than £116,000, shelling out £58,000 each plus an additional £8,000 each to furnish them. The houses are connected to the same water and electricity system as the main house and the entire installation only took four hours from start to finish.Even though Ashley went off to college after living in the shipping container, it meant the space was free for Maddie's friend Braedon to rent. Both Maddie and Braedon have made their shipping container homes work for them, even though they are only eight feet wide and 40 feet long.Maddie is now in college too, but she decided to stay living in the shipping container house. She said, "Living on campus is something I never wanted to do, I really like being around my dad, he's one of my best friends and I couldn't imagine being away from him."Inside the containers is a living room with a sofa that pulls out to make a large guest bed, as well as a large TV.There's also a small kitchen area with a mini-fridge, microwave, and induction stove, though Maddie admits she never uses it and makes the most of being a stone's throw from her dad's house."I never cook here," she joked, "I live at home, so I go in and use their kitchen."Each container also has a decent sized bathroom with a walk-in shower and plenty of storage space. The bedrooms are not short on storage space either, the beds are raised so you can store things underneath with built in drawers. Both bedrooms also have large closets, which they have both filled to the brim with clothes and shoes.People loved the houses, with one saying "It's a great idea, this way the parents know where their daughters are and can be there for them in case the girls need them."A second wrote: "Wow, the father is a thoughtful and considerate man who blesses his children with their own little homes and makes provisions for both his parents and his wife's parents when the need arises as they age."Your email address will not be published.Required fields are marked with *Save my name, email and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
