SOARING house prices have left many Brits despairing at their chances of ever getting on the property ladder.

But some homes have had the asking price cut in HALF - proving there are bargains to be had if you look hard enough.

Across the UK, the average house price has rocketed 10.9 per cent in the past year to £277,000, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Bidding wars were fuelled a stamp duty holiday during Covid along with very limited supply of homes on the market, experts say.

Rural areas saw prices rise up to 24 per cent in a year as more people sought to escape city life.

But with interest rates set to rise to tackle inflation, some pundits predict a housing crash could be on the horizon.

You don't have to wait for that, as there are some sellers that have already dropped asking prices by up to 50 per cent.

One of the houses on our list has been reduced by £450,000, and two more are now bargains with guide prices of just £15,000.

This Grade II listed Georgian cottage has original oak beams throughout and is "crammed full of period features", agents say.

It is in the centre of market town Alresford, Hampshire, and boasts three bedrooms and a home office.

The asking price was cut by a whopping £400,000 in February, and a further £50,000 in April.

This three-bed end of terrace house has been on sale since February last year in Crawshawbooth, a small village on the edge of the Pennine hills in Lancashire.

It is currently divided into two flats and an open plan office space, which could be converted back into residential use.

The agents say it is "well presented throughout, providing a ready made investment opportunity".

It sits right on the village high street, and boasts easy access to nearby Rawtenstall, open countryside and motorway connections.

It was first listed at £450,000 but the asking price has been cut four times, most recently last month.

This three-bedroom chalet-style bungalow is set on a private holiday estate in Dunkeswell, five miles from Honiton, Devon.

It was listed for sale last September and is now up for auction, with a guide price of half the previous asking price.

The auctioneers say: "This luxurious fully furnished three bedroom lodge offers a perfect holiday getaway."

This terraced house is in Northwich, Cheshire, across the road from a park.

As well as two bedrooms it has a loft space and a converted basement, and could be extended into the back garden.

Agents say it is "in need of modernisation".

It was first listed in January and was reduced by £10,000 in March.

Now it is up for auction with a guide price of just £15,000.

Bargain hunters might also want to look at this three-bed semi in a quiet residential street in Stafford.

It boasts two reception rooms, front and rear gardens, a detached garage and a spacious paved driveway.

There is also potential for a two-storey extension to the side and rear, agents say.

It was first listed for sale in January and is now going under the hammer at online auction with a guide price of £15,000.
